The Eastern Illinois Economic Development Authority (EIEDA) issued a $11,500,000 double tax-exempt bond for the construction of a 150 unit assisted living and supportive living complex. on State Street bordering West Side Park. The development included the adaptive reuse of the vacant Howard Johnson’s hotel. The 100% rehab involved scraping down to the concrete on each floor and a complete removal and replacement of all building systems, including the entirety of the exterior skin. Supportive Living Facilities (SLFs) are affordable assisted living developments for frail seniors or disabled persons ages 22-64. SLFs have the characteristics of an assisted living development both in terms of living environment and services provided. The population of disabled persons will include those that are recovering from stroke, muscular dystrophy, diabetes, muscular sclerosis, or loss of a limb and other disability categories.
